Rentals, Inc. Privacy Policy (California Residents)

This California Privacy Policy describes how Rentals, Inc. and its subsidiaries, affiliates, and related entities (collectively, “Company,” “we,” or “us”) collect and process personal information about our consumers who reside in California. The California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) requires us to provide our California consumers with a privacy policy that contains a comprehensive description of our online and offline practices regarding our collection, use, sharing, and retention of their personal information, along with a description of the rights they have regarding their personal information. This Privacy Policy provides the information the CCPA requires, together with other useful information regarding our collection and use of personal information. Any terms defined in the CCPA have the same meaning when used in this policy.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to our collection and use of personal information from residents outside of California. Consumers residing in other locations should see our general privacy notice at: https://www.rentalsinc.com/privacy-policy.

Personal Information Collected

We collect and use information that identifies, relates to, describes, references, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer or household (“personal information”). Personal information does not include:

• Publicly available information, including from government records, through widely distributed media, or that the consumer made publicly available without restricting it to a specific audience.
• Lawfully obtained, truthful information that is a matter of public concern.
• Deidentified or aggregated consumer information.
• Information excluded from the CCPA’s scope, like:
• personal information covered by certain sector-specific privacy laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), California Financial Information Privacy Act (FIPA), and the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act.

Personal Information Categories Chart

The list below sets out each category of personal information defined by the CCPA and states whether we collected it from consumers in the preceding 12 months. We retain personal information for as long as it is needed to respond to your inquiry and to keep records of our leasing services.

• Identifiers — COLLECTED. Name, email address, telephone number, IP address, and cookie identifiers including advertising click identifiers.
• Personal information listed in the California Customer Records statute — PARTIALLY COLLECTED. Your name and telephone number, and a property address if you inquire about listing a property with us. We do not collect Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account numbers, or payment card information.
• Protected classification characteristics under California or federal law — NOT COLLECTED.
• Commercial information — COLLECTED. Records of the properties and services you have inquired about.
• Biometric information — NOT COLLECTED.
• Internet or other similar network activity — COLLECTED. Pages you viewed on our site, the advertisement or campaign you arrived from, and your browser’s user-agent string.
• Geolocation data — NOT COLLECTED. We never request or record your device’s location. Any neighborhood or city preference is simply what you typed into a form.
• Audio, electronic, visual, thermal, olfactory, or similar information — NOT COLLECTED.
• Professional or employment-related information — NOT COLLECTED.
• Non-public education information — NOT COLLECTED.
• Inferences drawn from other personal information — PARTIALLY COLLECTED. When you sign up for unit alerts we generate a numerical representation of the rental preferences you described, so that we can match new listings against them. We do not build profiles about your characteristics or behavior.
• Sensitive personal information — NOT COLLECTED.

The Personal Data That We Collect or Process

“Personal data” is information that identifies, relates to, or describes you as an individual, directly or indirectly — for example your name, email address, or telephone number.

The types and categories of personal data we collect or process include:

• Contact information you give us: your name, email address, and phone number, submitted through our contact, renter, owner, or relocation forms, through the unit-alert signup, or through the chat assistant.
• Details of your rental search: the neighborhoods, number of bedrooms, budget range, and move-in timeline you tell us, together with any notes you add. For relocation inquiries this may include where you are moving from and the reason for your move.
• Property information from owners: if you inquire about listing a property with us, the property address and the number of units.
• Communication preferences: whether you asked for alerts by email or by text message, and your consent to receive text messages.
• Messages you send us: the content of your inquiries and notes, and your conversations with our chat assistant.
• Technical information collected automatically: your IP address, which we use to rate-limit abusive traffic, and your browser’s user-agent string, which is recorded alongside chat conversations.
• Advertising attribution: if you arrive from an online advertisement, the click identifier and campaign parameters recorded in our first-party attribution cookie.

What We Do Not Collect

We do not collect payment card or bank account details, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or other government identification numbers, biometric data, your device’s precise location, health information, or audio, video, or image files uploaded by you. We do not ask for or infer demographic characteristics such as race, gender, or age.

Rental applications, tour bookings, and tenant screening are handled on a separate third-party platform. If you follow an “Apply” or tour-scheduling link from a listing, any information you provide there — which may include identification and financial details — is collected by that provider under its own privacy policy, not by this website.

We disclose personal information for business purposes to service providers that host our website and database, deliver our email and text messages, power our chat assistant, and operate our internal leasing platform. These are listed in our general privacy notice at https://www.rentalsinc.com/privacy-policy. When you use the chat assistant, email addresses and phone numbers in the conversation are replaced with placeholders before the message is sent to the provider that generates the reply. We keep the original conversation in our own records.

Sale or Sharing of Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, our use of advertising measurement technology constitutes “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

In the preceding 12 months we have shared the following categories: identifiers (an irreversibly hashed email address and phone number, and Google advertising click identifiers) and internet or other electronic network activity information (the pages you viewed on our site and the advertisement you arrived from). These categories are shared with Google LLC for the purpose of measuring the effectiveness of our advertising.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

Your California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• The right to know what personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
• The right to delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
• The right to correct inaccurate personal information that we maintain about you.
• The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.
• The right to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information.
• The right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of these rights.

How to Exercise Your Rights

To opt out of the sharing described above, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control in the footer of any page on this site. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out request, with no further action needed from you.
